Where does the family come from?

We found the earliest documentary evidence for related people named Grossberndt in the church registers of Sielen (1595), Trendelburg (1673), Friedrichsfeld (1807) and Deisel (1875).

It is possible that the origin of the family is Hümme, as in 1545 a Hans Grossebernt of Hümme appears as owner of a gun in a list of men fit for military service. But up to now we cannot prove a connection to the later Grossberndt people.

Nowadays (since the administrational reform of 31.12.1970) the formerly independent villages of Sielen, Friedrichsfeld and Deisel are parts of the town of Trendelburg, situated about 30 km north of Kassel in the federal state of Hesse. Hümme today belongs to the town of Hofgeismar.
